Honestly and genuinely I love this game but I sort of wished there would have been an option where you could reject him every time he tried to make an advancement on you because I feel like tavi never deserved him look at what he did he took his life away stripped him out of his title and whenever he slit his throat for the first time and he was saved he became obedient to tavi and it really didn't make sense because how could you just let somebody sit there and try and take advantage of you after what they have done to you that's not right in my books I just really would have loved to see a way to reject him every time ( i loved the art in this really well done phenomenal storytelling honestly) and p.s I'm not trying to take away the sexual content it's just something that would have been a interesting concept I think
Unfortunately I ship these two characters too much and I still want them to be together to some degree even when put into a grim scenario like this, so it was inevitable each route would have a bit of 'romance' (no matter how twisted and unhealthy) sprinkled in. The relationship is meant to be pretty dysfunctional and depressing, though.
Like "All Ashes and Illusions", this is dark, but in a thoughtful way, thinking about how to accept and make amends for one's misdeeds. Good stuff, as always. Also, I really do recommend playing this after Ashes; you should be able to figure its plot out fine but I do still think that it hits different having experienced Yuel's screw-ups first hand.
This how you get the neutral, good, and 'final' ending (the 5th ending is not particularly happy lol so if you only want to read the best outcome you might want to skip it...)
He still wanted to have hope He admitted he was to blame He made light of the topic And so he did
Tavi argued against the physician’s cautions Try to reason with Yuel He wished that he could help Yuel No matter how much it hurt Uncomfortable And he gave in to that temptation Logical Begged Yuel desperately He was kind to Yuel because nobody else had been Before he relented (if you press on you’ll get the neutral ending)
For this last choice, you'll either get the final end or the good end based on what you pick. It's possible to get railroaded into only getting the final end from this choice if you picked other stuff earlier, but if you follow the guide the narative will branch here
He promised Yuel he would always be there for him (gives you the final ending) He would have to be careful but… (gives you the good ending)
So... I thought I was gonna have a good ending my first playthrough, went through the credits and then Salim pops in. I cried.
My second playthrough I purposefully chose different choices, another bad ending that made me cry harder... Seriously Yuel, while Tavi is SLEEPING NEXT TO YOU?!? Ffs... What a horrible wake up call...
Finally got a good one my third time. Though geez these historical ones just rip my heart out. Things aren't much easier for them in modern times, but at least they don't have to deal with the royalty thing hanging over their heads. "Must produce an heir" my ass. Let Khalil's bloodline END, man!
Haha this story is a bit sadistic... Although, in the original draft of the story, there was only one ending, and it was a bad ending, so at least there's a possibility of things working out now!
I hope the story was still enjoyable and/or interesting despite the various Horrors I subjected my boys to haha 💦💦
Oh, of course it was. I'm not usually a fan of historical... Well, anything, but I'm a huge sucker for Tavi and Yuel, no matter the environment. The bad endings make me wanna replay Unluckily in Love though lol.
Yaaayyyy!!!! That's my favorite of the games with them so far. Mostly because To Have and To Hold felt kinda rushed with them getting together. I actually think of that one as a sequel to Unluckily in Love, like they lost contact for a while and then meet again a decade or so later. The only inconsistency of thinking that way is Khalil's time of death because it's current in both games lol.
I like UIL a lot too, it's very cute and fluffy! It's also the easiest setting to work with to do side stories or spinoffs, which is what I've been doing. I'm probably going to release a few short stories set in the UIL universe, though it might take a bit to finish them; I'll have to see how it goes!
If it's not too much of a bother, do you remember all the options you chose to get the good ending?
I'm halfway through the game and so far there have been so many distressing scenes (Yuel attempting to take his own life twice). I'm just wondering if there's a way to avoid these scenes (they're seriously too difficult to read) and if I'm already heading towards the bad ending.
Yuel's two attempted suicides take place regardless of what choices you pick, since the story doesn't banch off into the different endings until about 70% of the way through. A lot of the grim content here is unskippable, though the darkest content is in a couple of the bad endings.
If you want I can tell you all the choices you need to pick to get the good ending, if you want to ensure that things end happily.

I was writing some more cute fluff set in the Unluckily in Love universe, so there will be more things to look forward to on the horizon 👀

Would you mind spoiling it for me please, how do I get the good ending?
Sure, just gonna drop it so others don't see it immediately.

You tell Yuel you have to be careful, rather than that you'll always be there.
Thank you!
