Upcoming change in price
Hello everyone,
I'm writing a quick post to let you know that I am going to change the price of this visual novel from $0.00 to $9.99 next week. I had every intention of keeping this visual novel free, as it is a passion project of mine and I want to share it with as many people as possible, but that no longer seems like a sensible option.
This VN isn't very popular, so hasn't received many legitimate reviews on Steam from people who actually read it, and it has also received several negative reviews from people who obviously didn't read it that are insultingly rude and homophobic.
Clearly, there are people who trawl through free LGBT games on Steam and they download them solely to leave negative reviews spreading hateful rhetoric, and it's very sad to see this happen to a story I care so much about.
If this VN were more popular and had received more legit reviews from people who actually read it, it would balance out these bad actors and it wouldn't have so much of an impact. However, this VN is not popular, and it has received very few legitimate reviews, so these bad faith negative reviews from people with 10 minutes of playtime have tanked the review score of the VN.
The situation with the Steam reviews has been weighing on me for a while, so I have decided I am not going to let people leave these kinds of unpleasant reviews anymore. I've decided to make the VN $9.99 on Steam to stop people from downloading it solely to tear it down, and I am also changing the price to $9.99 on Itchio to keep it consistent across all sites.
I'm sorry if this causes anybody any inconvenience. If you want to read the visual novel then you can download it for free over the weekend on Steam or Itchio. At the start of next week, however, this will become a paid VN, so please bear that in mind!
On a happier note, I am still working on episode 5 of this visual novel, which will be released as paid DLC, and it will be $4.99. I'm still getting art assets for the fifth episode, but as soon as I receive all the art, I'll start coding it. Here's a look at one of the CGs!
I'll keep woking hard to finish all 8 chapters I had planned for this VN. I hope the handful of people who enjoy this story will appreciate it!

Well that cements my plans for this game.
I'd never played it on Steam (I'm primarily an android player) but now I definitely will and will leave a positive review. It won't make much of a difference, but hopefully a true fan of the pair will help bring in a few more users. I'll also gladly pay for it when it goes up in price just to keep it available and in my library.
I'm sad to hear about the negative reviews. You can't even play one full episode for 10 minutes, those dumb trolls.
Also, I flagged all but one of the reviews for not really playing the game. One had a somewhat legit review (thought it was boring and them being cousins was "gross" which is fair). Two of the reviews were word-for-word the same and obviously by a troll with too much time on their hands just saying it was immoral or something. Nothing may come of it, but I did point out to Steam the amount of time they spent playing it and that they were likely trolling.

I also reported these obvious troll reviews to Steam for harassment but Steam didn't do anything about them, so I doubt that they care. I think that all the negative reviews for UiL Fragments on Steam were left by people wanting to hate on a free LGBT game except the one you mentioned, it's kind of depressing.
Oh well, I will keep on telling the stories I want to tell regardless. I appreciate all of your kind comments too, it means a lot ❤️

Bear in mind if anyone did voluntarily pay money, but less than $9.99, this may take access to the game away from them just as surely as if they'd paid $0. Itch.io is weird about that with variable price stuff.
If you have the game saved to your device then Itchio can't take it away, so people should download it if they want to ensure they can still access it.
Donations have also been disabled on this game for several months so hopefully it won't be an issue for too many people.
Sounds good, then.
That's absolutely horrible and it saddens me that games vendors do not take better measures to protect queer creators.
